First of all, you have the following equipment to steam clean your bed;

  • Vacuum with a hand attachment
  • A laundry detergent or baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Dry towels
  • Steam cleaner.

Step by Step Method to Steam Clean your Bed

Strip all the sheets and blankets

First of all, you remove everything from your bed before you begin to clean your bed. If you have a topper on the mattress, then first remove it and exposing the mattress completely.

Mattress absorbs lots of dust, sweat, and dead skin cells. These should be washed every few weeks.

Wash all the bedding with high heat to clean

Wash all the pillows, sheets, and mattress toppers in the washing machine by using hot water. Then sanitize on high heat after that deodorize and clean them. Check the tags on the sheets and pillows to find out the instructions write on them for cleaning.

Deodorize the mattress by sprinkling the baking soda

Baking soda can deodorize your mattress and other fabric stuff and remove all the unpleasant orders from your fabric. Sprinkle little baking soda on your bed evenly. Allow the baking soda to absorb on your bed at least for two hours takes time to absorb all the smells like oil and urine.

Slowly stream the mattress with a hand attachment

After sprinkling the baking soda, it’s time to clean all mattresses by vacuum cleaner using hand attachment with rotating brush by giving short stroke and slowly. It removes all the dead skin cells, hairs, and fine dust particles. It works best.

Choose an appropriate vacuum machine

If your iron has a steaming function, you can use it. You have to choose the machine which can heat up at least at 212°F because it will work best.

Heat the steamer according to the manufacturer’s instructions 

Most of the steam cleaner has a tank for water and a motor that produce heat for steaming. Fill the water tank according to manufactures constructions.

Then turn on the steam cleaner and allow it to clean up all the dirt from your mattress. Be sure that read carefully all the instructions of manufacture.

Apply the steam to the mattress top using long and slow strokes

Hold the steam cleaner in this way that you do not touch the mattress then; apply the heat through steam cleaner to your bed or mattress at the top left corner of the mattress. Move slowly and thoroughly downward in all rows and covers all the mattresses in hot steam.

If you think that the steam cleaner too wet the mattress, then turn down the dial to control the amount of steam released if available otherwise, you can hold the steaming wand o little away from the mattress. Steam the sides of the mattress for a deeper clean.

Wait 1-2 hours for the mattress to dry completely

It is all up to you that how much you used the steam to clean the mattress it will take more time if you used more steam up to a certain limit. Usually, it takes 1-2 hours. To speed up the process of drying the steam by fans of the room and open all the windows.

Cover the mattress with clean linens once it’s dry
